Bull Run Occoquan Trail (aka the BROT) - 4/7/12

This past weekend, not only did I GET OUT THERE on the trail, but I got out on a limb as well.

For the first time in my hiking life, I decided to join a hiking club for an outing. After scouring the internet and learning about all the options in the DC area (as well as the hikes they were offering on Saturday), I ended up joining folks from the local chapter of the Sierra Club (http://www.sierrapotomac.org/events.htm). And what a nice bunch of hikers it was!

As you can see from this picture (and as you probably remember) it was a BEAUTIFUL day, the kind that takes your breath away.

If you haven't been on this trail, you'd be surprised how "out there" you feel right in the heart of NoVA. The BROT is 18.5 miles long and runs from Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville to Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, following Bull Run the entire way until it dumps into the Occoquan River (http://www.nvrpa.org/uploads/Images/content/bullrun/watertrailmap.gif).

We hiked about 6 miles, enjoying the bluebells that were out in all their glory!

Two of my fellow hikers had trekked the Tour du Mont Blanc which I will be attempting this summer. They had so many great stories and helpful hints to share.

I look forward to joining this group - or others like it - in the future. Let's hear it for GETTING OUT THERE - both physically and socially! :)
