Sky Meadows State Park (9/12/08)
Today I got up at the crack of dawn and headed out Route 66 to Sky Meadows. I arrived at the gate at 7 am (and I was quite pleased with myself for doing so). Unfortunately, the park didn't open until 8 am! I could not believe it. Just as I was about to settle in for an hour of...well, nothing...a park ranger showed up to hoist the flag. He said "good morning" and I said (after saying "good morning" in return) "so you really don't open until 8 am?? I got up nice and early to get here!" He smiled and replied, "Go ahead in. This is the place to be when it's early!" Terribly grateful, I headed in.
It was a warm day and this was my first hike of any distance for the season - about 5 miles. It was a great hike with lots of deer and a good amount of uphill climbing. Needless to say, I was huffin' and puffin' for much of it! Rather than allow this to discourage me, I decided to use it as motivation to stick to my plan of regular hikes - the very best way to get in shape... Just gotta GET OUT THERE!
