Scott's Run Nature Preserve

There was no way I wasn't going to GET OUT THERE today. Five days ago we had 7 inches of snow on the ground. Today I was happily perspiring as I hiked the trails of Scott's Run. And I was not alone!
Located on Georgetown Pike about 100 yards before the beltway, this 375 acre Nature Preserve makes up the majority of the watershed for Scott's Run. While the trees around me still said "winter" the warm air shouted "SPRING!"

After a nice walk through the woods, the path takes a sharp right and goes abruptly downhill to the Potomac River. Look closely and you'll see the American Legion Bridge in the distance.

As a bonus, Scott's Run becomes a waterfall before plunging into the Potomac.

I was sad to find out near the end of my short hike today that Scott's Run actually starts under Tyson's Corner, comes out via some pipes near the beltway, and is an extremely polluted contributor to our major source of local water. Somehow, reading that just took something away from an otherwise lovely little hike. Oh well...

Now, it's time to get serious, get in shape and really GET OUT THERE! Spring has sprung. Woo hoo!

Polluted or not, I wish I had been there with you.
