I was looking into another group hike with the Sierra Club and found one that would be perfect. It was going to be in Southern Maryland near Solomon's Island and, having never been to this area, I decided to make a weekend of it. So, I found a nice little B&B (http://www.backcreekinnbnb.com/),booked a room, and headed over the Wilson bridge and due south. The B&B sat on Back Creek off of the Patuxent River. Here is the view from the patio:
After a lovely night at the B&B and a scrumptious breakfast of eggs Benedict, I headed to Jefferson Patterson Park to meet up with the group from the Sierra Club. The land was donated by a local family in the 80's and is full of history with active archeological sites, a replica Indian village, a working farm and a museum (http://www.jefpat.org/). In fact, the day of our hike was Archeology Day at the park so we were treated to exhibits and presentations along the way. This made for quite a leisurely adventure but it was great fun with a really nice group of people. One of the highlights was a huge Osprey nest under which we ate lunch while gazing on the Patuxent River (you can see it just to the right of the middle of the tree):

As a bonus, the hike leader was a man by the name of Paul Elliot. He looked very familiar to me but it wasn't until half way through the hike that I realized why. He is the author of my favorite local hiking book, "60 Hikes Within 60 Miles of D.C."

I recommend this park to anyone who'd enjoy a little history while they GET OUT THERE!

Pretty cool. How many people were on the hike with you? Do they know each other or is everyone pretty much strangers?
